Checking your DirecTiVo Drives

[This information applies to Philips DSR6000 and Sony SAT-T60 TiVo Units; these TiVos have DirecTV Receivers and TiVos combined in one unit.]

CHECKING YOUR UNIT TO SEE IF YOU HAVE ONE OR TWO DRIVES:

To begin, all stock Hughes DirecTiVos have only one drive.

Next, you can't tell how many drives are inside your Philips or Sony DirecTiVo through software, but in most cases you don't have to open the unit to know either. There are two ways to get information about the number of drives in your DirecTV Tivo.

First, you can look through the grill on the underside of the left edge of the combo unit. You will see something like this:

Above is a ONE DRIVE TiVo recorder - no screws in the holes to hold the second drive in place. If you see this, you know that you have a one-drive unit with certainty.

Above is likely a TWO DRIVE TiVo recorder - two screw heads are visible holding the second drive in place. Note that some one-drive DirecTiVos have been shipped with the only drive mounted on this part of the bracket, so even if you see the screws, there is a small chance that you actually have a one-drive unit.

For a second (but unfortunately, also not foolproof) way of checking, you can use the "serial number" approach. See below:

Sony SAT-T60 Serial numbers:

800xxxx - dual drive
801xxxx - single drive
802xxxx - single drive
803xxxx - single drive
804xxxx - single drive
805xxxx - single drive
and so on...

For Phillips DSR6000:

4701xxxx dual drive
4702xxxx dual drive
4703xxxx dual drive
4704xxxx single drive
(Anything 4704xxxx and above should be single drive.)
